In China the discovery of tea is traditionally ascribed to the mythical emperor Shen Nung, who ruled before 2700 BC. According to legend, one day he sat beneath a tree and started to boil some water to drink. Some leaves fell from the tree into his water and he decided to try the resulting infusion. He found the drink refreshing, the leaves were from the plant Camellia sinensis, and the resulting drink is what is now know as tea.
